Geocache Description:

A Letterbox Hybrid hidden at the top of a ridge. In addition to the normal logbook and trade items, it also contains a letterbox stamp, inkpad, and stamp book. Please do not remove the stamp, ink pad, or stamp book. THEY ARE NOT TRADE ITEMS!

During the First Age, the oldest elven kingdom was that of Doriath. Ruled by King Thingol, and protected by the girdle of Melian, the capital was Menegroth, or the Thousand Caves. Built by both elves and dwarves, it was located in the western wall of the ravine above the River Esgalduin and had only one entrance high above the river accessible by a large stone bridge. This beautiful underground city, decorated with stone carvings of birds, trees, and flowers, was home to elves and dwarves alike. The peace of Menegroth was destroyed when the dwarves slew Thingol to gain the Silmaril, which started the war between the two races. Later, Menegroth was sacked by the remaining sons of Feanor again to regain the Silmaril.
Menegroth is located not far from the Chamberlain Trail. Park at the posted parking area, then walk south to the cache. You can see remnants of the fires that have raged through the area as you approach ground zero. Below is Hagler Creek, with Pleasant Valley just over the ridge.

This is a letterbox hybrid. In addition to the normal logbook and trade items, it also contains a letterbox stamp, inkpad, and stamp book. Please do not remove the stamp, ink pad, or stamp book. THEY ARE NOT TRADE ITEMS!
