The Glory Wood is an area of woodland that lies on a hill to the south of Dorking town centre. The woods are managed by the Surrey Wildlife trust who are currently embarking on a substantial amount of clearing and tidying of the area.
There are two self-guided trails around the woods, one circular and the other providing an interesting route from Dorking to North Holmwood. The southern part of the site, known as the Devil's Den, is mainly oak woodland, with an area of sweet chestnut coppice.
The cache is a white film cannister and contains a logbook, a foreign coin and a pencil stub if you forget your pen. Please leave the pencil stub in situ. The cache is suitable for all the family and although mostly cleared of undergrowth, watch out for brambles and holly that are present in the area. Also due to the woodland clearing being undertaken do be careful of low lying stumps under the leaf litter.
The cache location should afford you a wonderful view along the Mole Valley over its flood plains towards Leatherhead. Up on the hills in the far distance can be seen the house of Norbury Park, a manor house built in 1774. The original manor house was recorded in the Domesday book in 1086.
The cache can be approached from Dorking town centre (public car park at the back of Sainsburys - coordinates have been given as a waypoint), or Goodwyns estate (only street parking).
The Glorywood isn't heavily populated with walkers but still take care n ot to be obvious to muggles as the cache is quite close to a trail.
