This cache has been archived.

FSUDad: Alligator mating season. Some of the trails you would have to hike will be closed until September because of alligator nests and the young ones.. Instead of disabling the cache I am just going to archive it.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Circle B Bar Reserve. You seek a large ammo can somewhere out yonder. See the description below for details. This Wherigo cache will test your knowledge of Florida history. Good luck!

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but it's a pretty good place to start from. Because this is a Wherigo cache, you will need a device capable of playing Wherigo cartridges. Garmin has a couple GPS units that do these, and most smart phones can do them through a free app.

The "Florida History Challenge" will cover roughly 5 miles, taking you on a scenic tour of this park. This route will also take you within spitting distance of most of the caches in the park.

To find the cache, download the cartridge into your device. Click the “Play” button, and you'll be taken to the first zone. Once your device senses that you are within the zone, you'll be prompted with a question to answer. Get it wrong, and you'll get a smarmy response, and be prompted to try again. Get it right, and you'll be directed to the next zone. I personally recommend you answer incorrectly at first, just to see the smarmy comments, but that's up to you.

This cache is within the Circle B Bar Reserve. Please understand that there are many critters out here which could cause you significant injury or death, to include alligators, venomous snakes and wild hogs. Please exercise caution as you move along the route. Items you might want to have with you include snake boots, water, sturdy clothes, water, a cell phone, water, a pokey stick, water, bug spray, water and spare batteries.

Dogs are no longer allowed in the reserve because of the number of alligators present. Don't forget the insect repellent and water. Be careful and enjoy the area. Be advised that there are always risks associated with visiting nature reserves. Caution, alligators live here. It is illegal to harass wildlife, please observe from a distance.

Please take the time to sign in at the Nature Discovery Center and note that you're there to geocache. Polk County's Environmental Lands Program is receptive to caching. Signing in shows that you appreciate this. Please be respectful of this property, its vegetation & wildlife. Stay on marked trails and make sure you grab a map of the reserve at the Center.

Your journey begins at the Cow Camp, which is just across the street from the posted coordinates. Look for the informational kiosk.

Enjoy!
