Puisqu'il n'y a pas eu de maintenance dans un laps de temps raisonnable, j'archive cette cache définitivement.

Geocache Description:

Il est une petite ville au pied des collines couvertes de ceps de vigne, à quelques pas de célèbres ruines de châteaux (le Haut-Andlau, le Landsberg ou le Spesbourg) et du plus prestigieux des monastères d'Alsace, le Mt Ste Odile, c'est BARR, chef-lieu de canton, reconnue aujourd'hui comme capitale viticole du Bas-Rhin.

Pour le visiteur, Barr dévoile ses charmes avec pudeur. Des rues au tracé ancien, maisons à colombages, portails cintrés rappellent le temps passé. Des fontaines à chaque coin de rue, la rivière qui lui permit de se développer, des lucarnes de tanneurs qui ouvrent un œil sombre et vous observent entre les fleurs, la ville se livre par petites touches à qui veut l'approcher. Il faut hasarder le regard dans les cours mitoyennes où l'on peut découvrir des espaces étonnants.

Tout en flânant dans les vieilles rues vous pourrez vous arrêter pour goûter les spécialités gourmandes, vous installer à une terrasse et vous laisser vivre tout simplement.

It was built in 1640 in a « Renaissance » architectural type, over an old castle's ruins. The building is divided in 3 parts : the main one has 3 statues representing Justice, Peace and Moderation. Inside of the court, a very beautiful double-stair can be seen.
This building has had several functions : clerk's office, trial, exchange, and now city hall and police station.

At this place, the « Club Vosgien » can be seen... Founded in 1873 by Edouard Hering, Barr's section covers 300 kilometers of hiking trails.

Wall of the castle

You are here in front of the ruins of Barr's old fortifie castle (today : Mairie), called Wepfermannsburg, because a knight called Wepfermann used to live here. The castle was raised during the XIIIe century, and was destroyed several times, according to the legend : 4 times by the devil and 4 times by a fire.

Degermann Tannery

The origins of the tanney are found at the XVIIth century. In 1832, the tannery worked at the tanning of veal. This important building is part of the industrial heritage of the city. It witnesses its economic activity during the XIXth century.

After you found the geocache, to come back at the tourist office, we suggest you continue your walk to discover Barr by following « rue de la Kirneck » and then « rue des cigognes ». When arriving at a « stop » road sign, turn left, the tourist office will be in front of you.
