Geocache Description:

This cache is an ammo can in Washington's Crossing Park.  This cache location is near a few different nature trails.  You can follow the trails to the Nature Center and pick up caches along the way.  If you have a chance... stop in and say hello to the great people that work there and see the projects they are working on.

This cache name was inspired by salamanders.  When I was hiking the trails and picking up trash (while fixing up some of my geocaches), I picked up log that had trash under it.  Underneath the log were 3 salamanders.  I named this cache "The rest of our life" because a student of mine told me about the lives of salamanders: Salamanders live nearly their whole lives underground (99%).  The only part of the year that they are above ground traveling to a vernal pool.  Vernal pools are shallow depressions that contain water only part of the year, usually in the spring.  Vernal pools usually dry up and disappear before summer, but their existence is crucial in the salamander life cycle.  Every spring, salamanders travel to the vernal pool to breed and lay eggs.  After the eggs are layed...they return underground.  This is general cycle of a salamander and their incredible journey is a journey made "For the Rest of their Life!"
