Geocache Description:

Please join us at the Pine Grove Campground in Jonathan Dickinson State Park on the morning of Saturday April 20th.

For Earth Day weekend, we will be teaming up with JDSP and non-geocaching volunteers to help plant trees and native vegetation at one of the park's campgrounds. The park will provide the plants and tools.

The event starts at 8:30AM (park opens at 8AM). The park anticipates planting will last until 1PM, but a large enough turnout might get the job done sooner. I am asking attendees to contribute a minimum of 2 hours time, but it would be great if you can stay for the entire event.

After the event you are welcome to spend the rest of the day finding the many caches located within JDSP. Anyone participating in a CITO on Earth Day weekend will receive a special Souvenir on their geocaching.com profile.

Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle. Long pants and bug spray may also be a good idea. There are restrooms located at the campground.

Pine Grove Campground was originally the site of Camp Murphy's hospital in the 1940s. The campground was located here after JDSP opened. The hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 obliterated the trees that made it so scenic and made the proximity to US1 easy to forget. The campground was subsequently renovated around 2010 into its current RV-oriented form. Anyone who has been there knows how sorely it needs some shade.
