This cache is the fourth in a series that requires technical gear to earn a smiley. There's a huge void of technical caches in the area, so it's time to do something about it.
The goal of this series is to increase the mental challenge of earning a smiley and to inspire the locals and other cachers to place technical caches in the area.
So rope up, hang on, and go for it!
Strategy
This cache is located at a local crag called The Hobbit Caves. For this cache, you'll have to rig a rappel in order to find it. Make your way above the cliff to the provided coordinates. This will put you above the cache; the rest is up to you.
Notes on Safety
I can't possibly submit a technical cache without stating the following:
- Make sure you triple check your knots.
- Make sure you triple check your harness.
- Make sure you triple check your redundant anchor.
- Make sure you triple check your rope for core shots, deep cuts, etc.
- Wear a helmet.
- Don't attempt to free-solo the rock wall. That is, if you do not have a rope, do not attempt this cache!
- If you are unfamiliar with how to rig a rappel, do not attempt this cache.
Other Considerations
I've had a few close calls with rockfall in my day. Watch out for falling rocks.
If you decide to climb here, please do not top rope directly through the chains. People have been thrown in the Logan River for less.
