How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

A night cache taking you around the Hothfield Common. There are two things that are essential in completing this cache:
  1. It needs to be dark
  2. You need a good torch
Strong, waterproof footwear is advised as some of the land is quite boggy.

The final container is a small tupperware box which is large enough for small swaps and Tbs. Bring a pen just in case the pen has gone walkies (it happens)

We would advise parking in the nearby layby (amongst the lorries) as opposed to parking in the car park - as some of the late night visitors to the car park may have other ideas as to why you are flashing a torch about....

As you approach the start of the trail you should be able to spot a small reflector on a tree. Approach the reflector and look for the next. Continue to locate the reflectors which are at head height (for the average person) approaching them in turn. When you come to two reflectors, one above the other, you are at the end of a stage, and you will find a container. Do not open this container but use what you have to help you find the co-ordinates for the start of the final stage.

One stage will give you the N co-ords, the other will give you the E co-ords.

The final trail will take you to the cache. Hidden at the point with three reflectors one over the other. Once located, signed and carefully re-hidden the cache you can ( with your back to the final cache reflectors)
look for three reflectors in an arrow formation and follow their direction - you should find two of these that will take you towards the path. Bear right and head back to the parking.
