This cache is an addition to the already awesome caching route through the Blue Swallow Reserve. It is on the edge of the escarpment offering a wonderful view over the De Kaap valley. A cammo lock n lock container.
So early Sunday morning I woke up and got everything ready. Today is the big day! Off we go to place the geocache. Monique accompanied me on the trip, eager to get out and enjoy the short hike. O.....what a surprise it will be!
The evening before I got the cache ready and purposefully left it in the open with it's lid off, just so that she could see the contents and swag inside the container, but around 07:00 on Sunday morning I sneakily removed everything and popped the small little black box containing the engagement ring in the cache. This was going to be a nerve wrecking but exciting hide! On the way to the hiding spot we laughed, joked and she even quipped about us getting married since we've been together for five years. Luckily I was walking in front of her at that point and had to supress the nervous giggle with the words "Everything has its time and place....."
We got to the spot and had a look around for the perfect hiding place. While scrounging around the rocks I asked her: "Please just have a look in the cache and make sure that we have everything in there that we need". It felt like ages, but she took the container out, opened it and stared.... To be honest, I didn't know how long she just stood there, her hands started shaking and I can't describe the look on her face! "What is that?" she asked. "Open up and find out" was my very nervous reply. From there it just happened, fits of laughter, giggling, some tears...Up to now, that was the most perfect moment in my life. The beautiful backdrop of the De Kaap valley behind her and her radiant, truly happy smile.
Not to worry, the cache is not empty, I did eventually place all the necesarry goodies in the cache.
The BEST part of this cache hide I hear you ask? It was when she said "YES!".
