Sons of the West Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Toy Hunters: Collected the container today - it is indeed cracked; and soggy and wet inside. Considering that I won this container at Sol de Lune's trivia event and that the theme of this cache was somewhat related to him (lol), I think it's now time for this cache to be archived. Also, arriving at the location today the gate was locked and read "danger: keep out", so removing the cache might've been for the best then! I'm also trying to cut down on my hides further away from home. Thanks to all that found this cache and left great comments; and thanks to Sol de Lune for this great and memorable prize!

Geocache Description:

Sons of the West,
Red, White and Blue.
We come out snarling
Bulldogs through and through.
Bulldogs bite and Bulldogs roar,
We give our very best.
But you can't beat the boys of the Bulldogs breed,
We're the team of the mighty West.

Another wordfind puzzle cache in honour of our AFL football team, the success starved Western Bulldogs. This is the second sistema container that I won at Sol de lune's Spring Time - Trivia Time event in September 2012. I hope you like what I've done to it SDL...

The Footscray Bulldogs originally founded in 1873 for the VFA (Victorian Football Association), but they joined the VFL/AFL in 1925. Their only two AFL premierships have been in 1954 and 2016. In 1996, they changed their name to the Western Bulldogs, therefore have lived with that name since. Over the course of history, there have been many legends who have played for the doggies.

So the wordfind this time is about the legends of the Western Bulldogs. As usual the cache is not at the listed co-ords. To find the coordinates to GZ, you need to figure out the attached word-find first. Then you need to record the remaining letters from top to bottom; left to right. This will create the name of a famous bulldog location. Then using the letter values (A=1, B=2, C=3, Z=26, etc), convert the letters to numbers. Add all the numbers together to get a three digit number. Then do the following calculations to get the GZ coordinates:

Subtract the three digit number from the original south decimals.
Subtract the three digit number from the original east decimals.
Checksums: S=42 E=28

The cache is along a path that hopefully hasn't been walked on by cachers. The nearest entrance is 200m away. Take the time to look around the area, as there is some interesting work nearby. The cache is a black 1L sistema with a lot of swaps. There is no AFL themed swaps, but feel free to drop some in.

Enjoy. FTF honours goes to Boot65 (a Richmond supporter I see)
