Meet at the End (Mainland Britain's most Westerly) Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: With sincere apologies to Dingley Trampers, it's (overdue) time to archived this excellent bijou eventlette in the sun. Thanks to all who made it - cachers and 'miggles' alike - for helping make a very memorable maintenance mission for me to the wild end of Britain. I hope everyone had safe journey's home and keep an eye on my caching account for future Scottish events, expected in June 2015.

Stick this event on watch - I'll upload some photos with my long-overdue Attended log; to follow!

Cheers again and happy caching [:)]

Geocache Description:

Another SP event well off the beaten track!

Having held Britain's most Northerly and Southerly, Easterly and Westerly events, I'm now focusing on mainland extremes. So in 2011 I held Scotland's highest event, following England and Wales' highest in 2009. In 2012 I hosted SP's Final Extreme? at Lizard Point, Cornwall, but it turns out I just. Can't. Stop!

Since setting a cache at Ardnamurchan Point in 2007, I've wanted a reason to return to this amazing, peaceful spot and since I'm on Mull for a holiday, this was too close to ignore.

Where: The platform with the fog horn (in good weather) or the shelter below it (in bad weather) behind the lighthouse at Mainland Britain's most westerly point.

When: Thursday 13th June 2013, from 12-1pm. Bring your binoculars and sandwiches for a whale-spotting picnic!

Who: Any cacher/s able to make it to this far-flung corner of Britain. It is worth the effort to drive the 25 miles in from Salen to the east, or getting the Tobermory ferry from Mull to Kilchoan, as I plan to. Everyone welcome. If you're new to caching or cache events you'll be made especially welcome.

Why: Because I believe caching *should* take you to places you might not otherwise have a reason to visit. It's a remarkable area with wildlife apleanty, well off the west coast tourist trail. Also, I'm back to refresh the cache and could use some company :)

How: I suggest a car as it's a very long walk. Dave Gorman cycled here as part of his 'Sit down, pedal, stand up' tour in 2010 but that would only be for serious cyclists as it's a long way.

What: A relaxing cache meet, with caching chat, TB and geocoin swapping, a flask of tea (please bring your own) and crisps, at a very special place.

There's a thread about my June 2013 events on the Groundspeak forum and on the GAGB forum.
