This geocache is available daily from sunrise to sunset. There is no fee to visit the grounds.

History:
During the winter, workmen from the Roosevelt estate would cut large blocks of ice from the pond you are standing next to. The workmen would put the ice onto horse-drawn sleighs or wagons and take them up the hill to the ice house near the stable. The blocks of ice would be packed in straw or sawdust in the ice house and would last until the following winter. This ice would be used to keep food cold in an icebox, located in the kitchen, long before refrigerators were invented.
