Sigiria Forest #3: Stumped!
I was first introduced to this fine urban forest through Nairoberts' Sigiria Special Cache GC439TD which has some background info on the forest and this map of the trails. Here you will find a link for downloading a very useful Google Earth file of Karura/Sigiria Forest which you can upload (and save) into your Google Earth places giving you all the trails, markers and waypoints.
Despite visiting Nairobi since 1975 and living here for a total of nearly 5 years, I had never ventured into this or the adjoining larger Karura Forest! This cache opened the door for me to a safe, beautiful, tranquil environment, easily accessible within Nairobi City - a remarkable asset of this otherwise hectic place!
Inspired by the wonderful environment and the wish to share it with others and especially fellow cachers - I decided to place a series of caches along the trails to add that extra dimension to your visit! Here is the third of the series (so far)!
To Get to the Cache:
From the location of Cache #2: Lakeside (GC47VW0), head back to Marker 58c @ S 01° 14.400 E 36° 47.928 and turn left (NE) passing along the side of the lake. At the next Marker 58b @ S 01° 14.356 E 36° 47.997, turn right (S)and head for the cache location about 50m along this trail.
The cache, a hand-made bottle caps container, is hidden in a small clearing about 7m to the north of the trail.
When retrieving and replacing the cache, please watch out for muggles and ensure the cache is returned properly concealed to its hiding place - thanks!
From here, you can either return the way you came, or continue further along the trail to either Marker 56 or 56a where you would turn right to head toward Nairobert's Sigiria Special Cache (GC439TD) and from there right back along the main trail to the car park. Or . . . you could explore the rest of the forest . . .
