Geocache Description:

Mega 2013 - Ryton time for some Biking and Barking

Where:
Ryton Pools Country Park,
Ryton Road,
Bubbenhall,
Coventry,

CV8 3BH

When:
Friday 2nd August

11.00am onwards

Join the 2013 UK Mega Committee at Ryton Pools Country Park for an afternoon of biking and barking. We shall be meeting in the Courtyard Area of the Country Park; look out for us in our Mega 2013 Gear and come over the sign the log book. Then relax and enjoy the park and of course the company.

The park was a set of fields until 1965 when the land was purchased and used as a landfill site for the nearby towns of Leamington Spa, Rugby and Coventry. Waste was dumped there for 27 years until 1992 when work started on developing part of the site into a country park, which included the flooding of the pits. The park officially opened in 1996 with over 2,500 trees and shrubs being planted to create the beautiful park you see today. Adjacent is Ryton Wood, an area of woodland owned and managed by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

At the time of the meet the cafe will be closed for renovation work, however there will be a mobile catering unit to provide refreshments together with an ice cream van, both located in the courtyard. Of course you can also bring your own refreshments with you. Other facilities on site include a small visitor centre, two playgrounds for children, fishing facilities and a bird hide.

Please note: Admission to the park is free but parking is charged at £2.50 for the day.

To claim your find all you need do is turn up and sign the log book. There’ll be chance to catch up with fellow cachers and any geo-kids will love the adventure playgrounds. That said it would be a shame to visit Ryton Pools and not see what the park has to offer. There are a number of paths around the park, many of which are wheelchair and pushchair friendly, so we've arranged some activities that take these in and let you enjoy the park. We are encouraging cachers to bring one of two items with them;

A dog – to take on a gentle stroll around one of the park’s waymarked trails. Of course those without a 4-legged friend are welcome to join us as well!

A bike – for those who would prefer to tour the park from the saddle. For those looking for a bigger adventure there is a 16 mile ride around the local lanes and bridleways which starts from the country park (details available from the visitor centre).

It must be stressed that everyone partaking in the walking or cycling is responsible for their own safety.
