Church Micro 3434...Devizes - Baptist Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Simonthebridge: Decided it's time to go, I've replaced this a couple times now, also never completely happy with this placement as you can't see inside the church.
Opening up the location for someone else.
Thanks for all the visits

Sheep Street Baptist Chapel - Devizes
As early as 1646 there was a Baptist meeting house in Devizes. By 1673 this was established as a Church Meeting at 22 The Britox. Indeed so strong were the dissenters that the town elected a Baptist as our member of parliament in 1679.
In 1780, the Baptists built their chapel in Maryport Street. When the Presbyterians, who has a chapel round the corner called a new Calvinistic Baptist Pastor in 1796, a group left the Baptist chapel and joined them. This church became the United Society for a number of years until, in 1872 our church was built alongside the chapel. And it became known as the new Baptist church. The old chapel was then demolished to allow the church to be extended to accommodate the hall and schoolrooms.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
