Geocache Description:

As you approach you may think - what a strange layout of hedges, but look a little closer - these are what is left of a medieval church!

Now in ruins the church of St Andrew in Flixton was built in the 12th century and served this little rural parish for 500 years before its roof was blown off in a storm in 1703. The roof was never repaired, the church was abandoned and left to the elements. Most of what remains is rubble and a few walls of the west end.

Blundeston church (GC3BXV9) still contains a St Andrew altar in the north aisle, which is occasionally used. The Flixton font was recovered in 1912 and placed in Blundeston churchyard. It can be found outside the priests door in Blundeston churchyard and is clearly visible as you walk past the church.

It’s quite a small church, the ruins surround an area the size of a large garage. Over one window you can spot, through the ivy, the herringbone effect of Roman bricks. Somewhere inside there is a rather worrying crypt - be advised of this if you explore these ruins, since they contain what is effectively a pit full of nettles.

In January 1987 The ruins were listed Grade: II - English Heritage Building ID: 282363

The cache itself is close by but outside the area of the ruins. You’re looking for a camouflaged micro but do not think disruptive pattern material!

********** Congratulations to Armsey for FTF **********

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
