The World Wide Flash Mob Event: Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching. The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer. It will begin precisely at 1PM on Saturday May 4th, 2013. The event will be held at Dundurn Castle National Historic Site. This is in an open public space. This venue was chosen due to the amount of parking available on site.
Since last years event went off without a hitch, we will be following the same format. The following is an itinerary of the event.
1PM: A single whistle will sound indicating cachers to converge at the posted coordinates. A bucket full of nice, new swag will be placed at the coordinates. At this point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of"nowhere". Before this time, please walk around the park and act like a muggle (unlike last year!). Participants will sign the log sheets/raffle entries, and drop them in a designated collection box. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.
1:02PM: The event "meal" will be handed out.
1:05PM: We will take a group photo.
1:10PM: Raffle winners will be called out.
1:15PM: A double whistle will sound and the bucket, and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace!!!
Suggestion: Come early, to ensure that you do not miss the event. Although participants are welcome to get together after the event, the event will officially be over at 1:15PM. Afterwards, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching!!!
I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!)
The WWFM idea was started in 2007 after 2 cachers attended a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

An official geocoin is in the works, and discussions about a possible WWFM X souvenir is as well.
