Come join the Maryland Geocaching Society family at Assateague Island State Park for a Cache in Trash Out (CITO) and Picnic Event on Saturday, November 2nd at 9:00 AM. The posted coordinates are for the concessions area where we will be meeting and having the potluck on the patio.
This is an excellent opportunity to give back to Mother Earth by picking up and removing trash from this great park.
Assateague State Park is Maryland's only oceanfront park. It is located on Assateague Island, a barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Sinepuxent Bay on the west. Its two miles of ocean beaches offer swimming, beachcombing, sunbathing, surfing and fishing. The bayside offers visitors the chance to explore secluded coves by canoe or kayak. The marsh areas have a variety of wildlife, including deer, waterfowl and feral horses.
The campground will be offically closed at this time in Novemeber so the MGS will be working with the NPS trying to make arrangements for camping. Updates will be posted to this page and to the MGS Forums.
After the work is finished there will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy a great the potluck picnic.
Trash bags will be provided, items that will come in handy include leather gloves, old sturdy sneakers or knee boots, and handi-grabbers.
Be aware since it's a Maryland State Park there is an entrance fee of $3 per vehicle and for out-of-state residents, $5 per vehicle.
