Geocache Description:

The 280 Series is set along what was the 280 bus route for many years between Aylesbury and Oxford. That was until early 2024. Several changes have taken place since, but from March 2025, the X20 covers between Aylesbury and Thame, and although it continues to Oxford, it doesn't go to Wheatley (for caches #8 and #9). The 400 from Thame to Oxford stops at all stops along the route, including in Wheatley.

There are 10 caches to be found, these being in 5 types of containers. All are near to bus stops, but none are actually on bus stop property. They could be found as a cache and dash in a car (or by bike) or by using the bus for some or all of the journey. For cache n' dashers there is no need to park at a bus stop, so no bus need be inconvenienced.

The owner when he placed the caches only used the bus (he is of the age where bus passes are provided), but it involved 7 trips on the 280, plus one to return. However, 3 times he walked between stops as these were a reasonably short distance. 2 of the 3 walking stretches take you through Haddenham and Wheatley, villages with good eating places and older buildings of interest. The first and last caches are near to further educational establishments. There were no cache and dash possibilities within a mile of the terminals in Aylesbury or Oxford, hence the start and finish being where they are.

Upton Turn cache is a camouflaged former hot chocolate powder container. It is the closest of all 10 caches in this series to a bus stop. When parking, don’t be tempted to park in the bus lay-by. There is usually off-road space opposite the Oxford direction bus stop for a couple of vehicles.

geocaching.com states under 'Help Center' in Paragraph 1.7. Geocaching etiquette: 'We like to keep things fun for everyone, so we have a few rules we encourage everyone to follow. Sign both the logbook and log your find online to get your smiley. Geocache owners love reading about your experience'. There are more rules, but this is the first one. This cache owner requests that if on the rare occasion geocachers are unable to sign, an explanation is given in their log. A photo of the cache, if possible should then be sent through the messaging system.
