Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to All Saints’ Church in Shillington with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.  At night the church is floodlit, and can be seen from all directions when approaching the village.

Just within Bedfordshire, but with a Hertfordshire postcode All Saints’ Church, Shillington is a Grade 1 listed building dating mainly from the late 14th century. Described as the ‘Cathedral of the Chilterns’ by John Betjeman, the Church building dominates the village and the surrounding landscape. There has been worship on the site since the eighth century and the oldest parts of the present church date back to the eleventh century. There is a wealth of treasures in the form of brasses, stained glass windows, a peal of five bells and an extensive collection of graffiti.

Parking is limited next to the church and is only suitable for cars due to a narrow section at the top of Church Street. Parking spaces can always be found in Hillfoot Road.  A short walk up either Church Street or Hillside Road passing the allotments, will take you to the Church. The cache location is a short walk from the Church.

During the summer months, tea and cakes are served inside the church every Sunday between 3pm and 5pm. In 2016 this is available between 1st May and 25th September. Yum, yum!

The cache is not recommended during darkness as the information required is not lit and therefore difficult to read.

To locate the cache, find the stone plaque at N 51 59.551, W 000 21.898 with the following information

The ancient steeple of this church fell down in 1701.  It was rebuilt in 1750 by a Brief Rate and Subscription collected by the Rev Geo Story, a faithful curate of this Parish for 37 years, who died much respected May 13 ABCD aged EF.

The cache can be found at

You are looking for a small container which is placed outside the walls of the church grounds.  Please bring your own pen or pencil.  I have included a FTF pin for the first to retrieve the treasure.  Happy Hunting!

Congratulation to Ed2Ed for FTF.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
