It was at the Master Temple Psychic Centre, 301 Copnor Road, that undercover Naval Officers arrested Helen in 1944, during a seance. She had attracted the attention of the military who feared her seances were revealing wartime secrets. In 1941 she was said to have told of HMS Hood's sinking and the loss of HMS Barham, before the information had been released to the public. She was tried at the Old Bailey and found guilty.

She had also spent 9 months in prison in Scotland for defrauding bereaved families. (Her seances brought in a sizable income!) Families from HMS Barham had been told, in strict confidence, of the sinking, and this large, canny Scots woman, had been an expert in her field.
She will remain the last person convicted under the Witchcraft Act.
