The cache spot is on a corner. Once in this corner look for a modern sculputure, by Amilcar de Castro, one of the most important modern artists in Brazil. The cache is there. Best to be visited during the day for safety reasons.
The site is special. The building by the side of the sculpture is the oldest of its kind in Rio's City Centre, once a nuns monastery and later the mantiments deposit for the Imperial "Palace", across the street, bearing the same style. From this second building the Emperor governed both Portugal and Brasil, from 1808 on, because Portuguese King had moved to Brazil, fleeing Napoleon's invasion. From 1822 on, after the independence of the country, this is where the Emperor of Brazil went on governing the country. From the sculpture's corner, the diagonal opposite is the Rio de Janeiro State Assembly, where state bills are passed. The building is also old, but the style is different. It is the one in brownish tones, with high columns.
Nearby, is the XV of November Square, which name pays homage to the Republic proclamation, in 1889. There, in the middle of the square, you will find a small stone house, which wasbuilt to receive the portuguese Emperor in 1808, who demanded to set feet in Brazil having a symbol of the portuguese crown before his eyes. This symbol is on top of this little house. From this monument looking to the side opposite to the Imperial Palace, there is an old passageway, under a building. This is the Teles Arch. Going under it you will find a region full of bars, at happy hours, but don't get lost at these narrow streets, away from people gatherings, late at night, for the city center can be a dangerous place at night.
If you want to see another modern sculpture by Amilcar de Castro, a nicer red one, go inside the big glass tower entry hall by its side and cross it all the way, going out the other side. There is a hidden private square, pretty empty, just displaying this sculpture.
O local de cache é uma esquina. Uma vez aí procure uma escultura moderna, de Amilcar de Castro, um dos mais importantes artistas modernos no Brasil. O cache está lá. Melhor ser visitado durante o dia por razões de segurança.
O local é especial. O edifício ao lado da escultura é o mais velho de seu tipo no centro da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, outrora um mosteiro de freiras e mais tarde a despensa do Paço Imperial, do outro lado da rua, tendo o mesmo estilo. Deste segundo edifício o imperador governou Portugal e o Brasil, a partir de 1808, porque o rei português mudou-se para o Brasil, fugindo da invasão de Napoleão. Após a independência do país em 1822, o imperador do Brasil passou a reger o país dali. Da esquina da escultura, na diagonal oposta fica a Assembléia Legislativa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. O prédio também é velho, mas o estilo é diferente. É aquele em tons pardos, com colunas de altas.
Perto dali, fica a Praça XV (de novembro), cujo nome é uma homenagem à proclamação da República, em 1889. Lá, no meio da Praça, você vai encontrar uma pequena casa de pedra, que foi construída para receber o imperador portugues, em 1808, que exigiu, para por os pés no Brasil, um símbolo da coroa portuguesa diante de seus olhos. Este símbolo está no topo desta pequena casa. Deste monumento, olhando para o lado oposto ao Palácio Imperial, há uma passagem em arco sob um edifício. Este é o Arco do Teles. Entrando por ele você encontrará uma região repleta de bares, em happy hours, mas não se perca nessas ruas estreitas, longe dos locais com agrupamentos de pessoas, tarde da noite, pois o centro pode ser um lugar perigoso durante a noite.
Se você quiser ver outra moderna escultura de Amilcar de Castro, uma vermelho mais agradável, entre no hall da Torre de vidro a seu lado e cruze-o, saindo do outro lado. Há uma praça privada escondida, muito vazia, apenas exibindo esta escultura.
