ST. PETERs church is built of local sandstone and roofed with tile; the tower is plastered. Nave and chancel are of uncertain date , the tower was added in about the 14th century; in the 19th a transept and aisle were added on each side of the nave, and the chancel was rebuilt and a vestry added to the north of it. The font is circular on a round stem with hexagon foot, apparently modern. On the west wall of the nave is a small representation of the Royal Arms. There are three bells: one of 1602, another by Richard Eldridge, 1606, and the third by Brian Eldridge, 1648

It has to be mentioned of course that. E H Shepard, illustrator of 'Wind in the Willows' and 'Winnie the Pooh' is buried in the churchyard.

This  description starts at the Lych gate , where ever you park , from which you have to look high and read the words there  and in the time old tradition a=1 b=2 c=3 ETC. , take the first letter of the fifth word to equal A , the third letter of the second word to equal B and the last letter of the fourth word to equal C after leaving the gate go to the east window and just below that is a strange grave with some arches on , how many arches equals D , following that leave the main church yard and enter the lower grave yard , turn immediately right to find a military grave of a young soldier who died on the 18th August 1940 aged 2E ( there are three ) , lastly from the path down to the left , the last row at the moment is a gravestone in slate of the mother to a famous explorer from these parts , which reads 27th August 200F.
