Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Oak Creek Challenge Trail

Cache is at posted coordinates but you must meet the requirements of this challenge in order to log a find on it.

The Rules:

To complete this challenge you must complete the following conditions:

  1. Find 50 caches with helicopter, airplane, or other aircraft name in the cache name.

Additional Information:

  • This cache cannot be used to meet the requirements of this challenge.
  • Any posted "Found It" logs that do not meet the requirements of this challenge will be deleted.
  • If you have not met the requirements of this challenge, you may visit this cache, sign the log book and post a note on this page. When you have met the requirements of this challenge, you may then post a "Found It" log without having to revisit the cache.
  • Proof of completion can be done by using GSAK or creating a bookmark or list.
  • FTF Honors go to the first person (or team) to sign and qualify, if multiple people signed at the same time and qualify, Co-FTF works. Please notify twofingersdown or bjmccacher with any questions.
  • Any variation or name of an air transportation craft will work. Example: B-52 could count since it's the name of an aircraft. If you have any questions about qualification contact me and I'll let you know.
  • You can only use each specific name once. Example: Airplane name is P-51 Mustang. You can use P-51 once and Mustang once for a total count of two.
  • You have to have 50 different caches. You can not use a cache twice if it has two names in it.

More information about the trail:

The Oak Creek trail was on old railroad line that was taken out of service in 1993 and turned into the trail in 1996. To find out more information click here. We hope that you enjoy the trail as much as we do.

While out on the trail placing caches with my wife we heard a helicopter getting closer but couldn't see it. All of a sudden it came over the hill right next to us and then hovered about 50 feet above the trail for about 15 seconds. This encounter lead me to the idea of this challenge. Below is a picture of the helicopter as it was passing over the trail. The picture doesn't do it justice as we were with in .25 mile of it at one point. We talked to a friend of ours who is an ATC and they said the National Guard runs these training missions every few weekends. Maybe when you go get this cache you'll get to see one as well.
