Geocache Description:

A JOURNEY IN THE DARK AROUND ENGLEMERE POND.

This cache can only be found IN THE DARK OF NIGHT - the darker the better!

Overall a walk of approx 1.5km on flat terrain.  The route gets muddy after any rain.  Fine for children of 5+.

Englemere Pond is a Nature Reserve covering an area of 27.6 Ha (68.2 acres) and consisting of a shallow acidic lake offering a wide range of habitats that are important for wildlife. The site is extremely popular with dog-walkers, ramblers and nature lovers. For much of its recorded history the site has been part of a great Royal Hunting Forest that surrounded Windsor Castle and today it still is part of the Crown Estate.

The site is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) for its important range of habitats and associated species. For this reason please stay to designated paths & trails. For further info visit www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/englemerepond .

If you are new to Night Caches; here are some tips for you:
1. The brighter the torch, the easier your task.
2. For best results, hold your torch at eye level.
3. Record the GPS coordinates of the Car Park before you start. You may need this to find your way back!
4. Englemere Pond & surrounding area can get VERY MUDDY & FLOODED. Take care.

Once you get to the Car Park, walk down the Boardwalk, turn left & turn on your torch. Follow the Fire Tacks, some are silver & some are orange. You'll know when you reach GZ - the traditional Night Cache GZ sign is waiting for you. Cache is located nearby.  Small tupperware cylindrical container with log & pencil.

Englemere Pond is a lovely place for a walk. If you are there in day light, why not try "Sam's Hunt For Number Six"?  Do both & make a day of it!  If your minicachers are prone to whine (mine are!) Legoland isn't far away, & the local pub The Royal Foresters on the main London Road (A329 / B3017 junction) is very child friendly.

Parents be aware: the car park has been known in the past for "other nocturnal activities". Local Police have stopped it, but best not to shine your torch into other parked cars, just in case! Will probably now just be another geocacher ahead of you on the trail! On occasion the car park has been locked at night. If so, there is parking across the road in a small layby (N 51 24.444 W 000 42.399). If you enjoyed this Night Cache, pop across the road & try "Freya's Firetack Forage" around Whitmore Bog. A bit more of a challenge!
