Not a difficult hike - flat terrain. May need insect repellant and water if it's hot!
Your goal is the Withlacoochee River park near Dade City. Take River road off of 35A just south of US 98.(Note: 35A and 98 Intersect in two different locations - since it is essentially a by-pass. River road is nearest the northern intersection of the two roads - off of 35A). This is a county park east of Dade City. You can reach the cache a number of different ways, either following the park trails - marked by "raccoon" paw prints or the Green Swamp - West section of the Florida Trail - marked with Orange blazes, or using double-track service roads. The cache is only 1.24 miles from the trailhead, but we took the Florida Trail route - which turned out to be a 3.8 mile hike to the cache location. We returned by the unmarked trail - only 1.2 miles. The cache has a little something for everyone, the usual trinkets and treasures, a bandana, some music CD's, a swamp frog, and something to cool you off. Take your pic with the camera, sign the log book, take something/leave something, and enjoy the trip through the Green Swamp. Mostly dry even terrain, on our trip saw a Pileated Woodpecker, a gator, hawks, blue herons, squirrels, flushed some quail, and many other assorted birds, and mosquitoes.
