Geocache Description:

This year’s event will start at 9:00am on Saturday or run until everyone leaves on Sunday. It's a new location. The owner of "Big Island" on Annabassacook Lake in the Winthrop/Monmouth area has given us permission to use the island.

Make it a day event or an overnight!

If the ice is unsafe to get to the island, we have a back-up location a half a mile away. This spot will also be used as part of the campout. It's Snownut's camp. It's a very basic camp, with no insulation, but has electricity and a fireplace and we'll try to keep it heated. There's a latrine out back and a sliding hill (we hope).

There is camping on the large island on Annabassacook lake. The campsite can be accessed by snowshoe, skis or snowmobiles (a trail runs across the island) and maybe skates!  There is plenty of room for tents, a  private latrine (make-shift), gazebo and a fire pit. We hope to have hot chocolate going all day. Kids can slide on the banks and you can try your hand at ice fishing. There are several caches on the lake.

Let's aim for a 4:00 dinner on the island. Bring your favorite campfire dinner or cook on your camp stove. If you have something particular in mind, bring it. Afterward, everyone gets desert and a campfire.

The campfire will be lit most of the time, but especially in the evening. There are some chairs on the island; plenty of firewood.

Check back here before the event for important announcements. If the weather forecast does require us to cancel, postpone or relocate the event, we'll post it here.
