The 11th Annual Cache In Trash Out weekend is scheduled for April 20th & 21st, 2013. Those attending CITO Events on April 20 or April 21 (or both!) will earn a 2013 CITO Souvenir for their Geocaching profile.

Boat launching promptly at 9:00 a.m.


The Armand Bayou Paddling Trail follows Armand Bayou from near its confluence with Clear Lake, through the Armand Bayou Nature Center to Horsepen Bayou, where alligators in excess of 10 ft. are commonly seen. More than 220 species of bird are found in the area, including osprey, roseate spoonbill, various egrets, herons and pelicans. If you're a birder - bring your camera, binoclulars, and list(s).

The most popular launching point is Bay Area Park, located where Bay Area Blvd. crosses Armand Bayou. Paddlers can either paddle upstream following Armand Bayou as it meanders and narrows up to the ending point at marker 26, or paddlers can paddle downstream from the park. As you paddle downstream the bayou widens near the confluence with Clear Lake at marker 1.

This CITO Event is focused on the Northern part of Armand Bayou - heading upstream. Pull-out will be at Spring Gulley. This is a beautiful and very wild place, and this is our opportunity to give back by taking out some of the junk that shouldn't be there. Not only will that keep it beautiful, it will also benefit the wildlife which may become trapped in our trash.

We will begin meeting at Bay Area Park around 8:30 a.m. and will launch promptly at 9:00 a.m. to head towards GZ and then start CITOing.

Things all paddlers should have / know: Paddlers should always wear life jackets, and take plenty of sunscreen and water. Sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended. Power boats / gas engines are prohibited on the trail from GPS marker #4 upstream through trail marker #26 (basically, everywhere we will be). Stick to paddling.

Things needed for the CITO Event: A garbage bag or two. A reaching stick of some kind is often easier to use than your paddle. A fishing net may be useful if you have one. Gloves are recommended.

Cautions for all participants: There are risks involved in getting out on the water. Please read and heed the warnings on all of the CLAPS cache pages, which will give you more information on the area, including warnings and recommendations. The CLAPS caches are all bookmarked, and can be found HERE: CLAPS Bookmark.

Bay Area Park has a few caches in it. There are also caches along Armand Bayou and on Big Island Slough and along the Red Bluff jogging trail. Once we paddle upstream and complete our CITO mision, some of you may wish to pick up some nearby caches afterward. It appears there are at least 5 different types of other caches nearby.

Please log a will-attend log online as soon as you can.

 If you want to help out, but can't or don't want to get on the water, please contact me -- we can use your assistance! We can always use assistance at sendoff and to coordinate late arrivals, as well as shuttle services between the Park and pick-up points. You can always CITO around the park a little, too!

If you don't have a boat and do want to get out on the water and help clean up, post a note here. You may find yourself in an empty canoe or kayak seat in which you can lend your paddling muscle. We will do our best to help you get out there!

Is this is your first time paddling? Don't worry! After 15 minutes on the water you'll have it down and feel like a pro. Don't let your first-time status stop you!
