The church was constructed for Henry Edward Manning who was at the time rector of Woolavington, now East Lavington, with West Lavington forming a detached portion of that parish until 1851. The churchyard contains the grave of Richard Cobden although he lived in the neighbouring parish of Heyshott.

now for the cache , as you enter via the gate , take note of the dates on plaque for some one with a very long name , 5th October 19AB , walk into church yard and follow the path , as you turn right next to the church , the grave of Richard Cobden has dates for his youngest daughters death as CDth September 1891 , carry on towards porch and find a small wooden cross of one of the longest living people who died on the EFth April 2012 aged 105 , and then to the porch and how many glazed windows are there G , from there go down two sets of steps to the lower grave yard and make your way to the far corner where you will see a grave to Emily Irene Shepherd 29-5-1918 -to -17-H -19JK , now the cache can be found at ,
