SideTracked - Staines Traditional Geocache

Staines railway station is in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, England. South West Trains manage it and provide all services which are down to Reading, Windsor & Eton Riverside and Weybridge and up to London Waterloo.

The station was opened by the London and Windsor Railway on 22 August 1848.

It had a third, bay, platform which has been removed to accommodate the car park. The old railway track still can be seen leading towards the car park.

The station has had several names: Staines Central, Staines Junction, Staines Old and Staines.

A refurbishment of the station was completed in November 2008 with ticket barriers on both platforms, a renovated ticket office with a SHERE ticket machine. Wheelchair access to both platforms was provided by the construction of a new footbridge, with lifts.

The cache is not at the station, but is close by. You do not need to enter railway property to get this cache. It is accesible from the pavment. You are looking for a 35mm film pot with log book only, so please bring a pen.

As the station is busy and there is a 24h taxi company and builders merchant nearby, stealth is definately rquired. It could be considered a cache and dash if you go at the right time. Parking is avaiable within 10m of the cache at evenings and weekends (when the builders merchants is closed)
