Guenhwyvar, or "shadow" is a black panther from the Astral Plane. She can be summoned to our world via an Onyx Figurine of Wondrous Power. She is most well known the as the companion of Drizzt Do'Urden, the Ranger Drow.
Guenhwyvar is only accessible from the southbound lane of Highway 87, but there is a crossover at the junction of Highway 188 a couple of miles north. There is a pullout immediately before the guardrail begins. Park in the parking area, go through the gate, then walk up the hill. The .65 mile one-way hike climbs just over 600 feet in elevation: it should take 20-30 minutes depending on your hiking speed. Beware the usual high desert creatures.
