Geocache Description:

The church Micro series is intended to bring Geocachers to various churches all over the UK (and beyond).

Some of these churches provide the backdrop of our communities history. Please take some time to either read the cache page or visit the church.

Mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as Buchehale and was held by the Abbot of Croyland, earl Hugh and Hugh FitzBaldrick.

St Margarets is part of the Woodhall Spa Group of parishes serving six paishes and six villages.

Built of greenstone in the early English style, St Margaret's is partly 13th century with traces of Norman and the external features mainly Victorian. The Western tower, restored in 1912, is embattled with four pinnacles and houses a mediaeval bell. There are two original gargoyles and two of later origin.

The inside arcades are 13th century and both are of four bays with low double chamfered arches. The octagonal font was originally square and is a link with Norman times.

The fine pulpit, Masonic in design, was installed in 1646. A carved reredos was dedicated in 1902 and the stained glass windows of St. Margaret and St. Hugh in 1902.

Whilst the exterior is almost entirely the result of the 1884 restoration by the ubiquitous James Fowler there are interior stone features which date back to the 1300s, the bell in the tower is also said to be medieval.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
