When: Tuesday March the 5th 2013, from 6pm.
Where: The Crosse Keys, 9 Gracechurch Street, City of London. EC3V 0DR. This pleasent JD Wetherspoon pub is kid-friendly, wheelchair accessible and has Wifi. A plaque on the front of the building, which is close to Tower 42, recalls that a famous coaching inn - called the Crosse Keys - stood near the site.
What: A traditional pub geo-gathering to talk caching talk, swap swappy travel swaps, eat eaty eats and drink drinky drinks, as required.
Who: Cachers from far and wide. Who like pubs. Newbies are made especially welcome.
Why: Because I'm in town to attempt a world tower running record again, having missed out by about 50m (I was aiming for a vertical KM in under 60mins, but the tower was a few metres shorter than I'd been told, meaning I hit about 950m in the hour and didn't get the record) last year. As then, I'll be running up the 902 steps, 542ft/165m, 102 flights and 51 levels (including unnumbered service floors, which leads the top deck to be floor 42) of the near-by Tower 42 - formerly Europe's tallest building. Not once. Not twice. Not nine times, as in 2012, but TEN times in succession while attempting to set a Vertical Km tower climbing record and carrying on to a full mile. A very grand total of 510 floors, 1020 flights, 9020 steps and 5418ft/1651.5m up. Up. UP. UP! I *may* be ok to cache afterwards to walk off the pain and either way, I WILL be needing a bit of a sit-down after it! Please take a look at my profile for more details of this challenge.
How: Follow your GPS or A-Z to a pub at the above co-ords and address. The nearest tube stations are Bank, Monument, Cannon Street or Liverpool Street is also close by.
In the Past: I had a caching event in this pub after my first record attempt in March 2012: GC39WJK - The Skyscraper's the Limit! (here's a video of that attempt), as well as in a near-by one after my previous single (6m58s) 'Vertical Rush' run up Tower 42, in March 2011: GC2NKX9 - Recovery Meet in Tower42's Shadow - City of London and here's a video of that adventure, plus I had a cache meet at the top of Tower42, way back in April 2010: GC24C31 - London's Vertical Limit Extreme Event: Tower 42
