Geocache Description:

The first documentary evidence of a Church in Compton is found in the Doomsday Survey of 1086. The present church is the outcome of a sensitive restoration in the 1850’s but the late 12th century North arcade and chancel arch are still visible. The church – like all the churches in the Octagon – is normally open during daylight hours.

The latest Quinquennial Report in November 2007 identified the need to retile the roof.  This work, together with other repairs, has been put in hand at a cost of some £77,000, part of the cost being covered from PCC funds and part by a generous donation.

The church, which is light and airy, can hold some 160. The graveyard, still with space, is maintained as a place for quiet contemplation in a country setting.

At the given coordinates you'll find the best place to park up while completing this church micro. Also at these coordinates you'll find a well. There is a black piece of metal work on the top of the well with a date on it, the date will give you ABCD.

Now head to the church yard, at N50 55.637 W000 53.670 you'll find an impressive head stone of an Angel. Next to her you'll see some crosses on a single stone pad, the number of crosses equals E.

Now look for the white flag pole, right next to it there is a head stone for Henry Blackman. At the top of the stone there is a six letter word in different font to the rest of the writing on the stone. How many vowels are in this six letter word? Equals F.
How old was Henry when he died? Equals GH.

Now head towards the kissing gate on the south fence of the grave yard. Near here you'll find a head stone for Ian Alistair McKellar. What year was he born in? Equals 19JK.

You have all the info you need now to find the cache. Enjoy the short walk to the cache with nice views on the way. It can be slippery around here after rain so walking boots are recommended. The cache can be found at: N50 55.(G+H)(A+E+F)(C+H) W000 53.(JxF)(K-E)(G+B)

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
