Geocache Description:

Almost a cache and dash by a lovely stream with a chance for a wry smile

The River Mude drains from Poors Common into the sea at Mudeford, pronounced 'mu-di-ford', for reasons I don't know. At Bransgore its more of a stream than a river.

You can park in the local church car-park but only if there is no event, including school drop-off and pick-up, or use the alternate place which is at the end of Poplar Lane (N50 46.701 W1 43.877).

The bridge itself is adjacent to the road through the village but somehow standing on it and looking out over the fields, it is easy to forget the road. Alongside the bridge is a huge oak and behind it, a bizarre 'planting'. Somebody must have said to place it exactly at the edge of the village and whoever did, obviously no idea about line of sight. Take a look!

To retrieve the cache, pull gently. Its a micro so you'll need your own pen.

For those cachers who want a walk as well, carry on south to the junction with Neacroft and carefully cross the road as you turn right. Once at the crossroads in the hamlet, turn right again into Brook Lane which is a track. At its end it becomes a footpath which if you follow it you cross the River Mude again and then come to the local rec. Cross the rec aiming for the village hall and rejoin the pavement. Walk on to the Crown crossroads and turn right towards your car. This crossing is another dodgy one that needs some care. Its a loop of about 1.5 miles.

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast, Damian from Winter Foxes has created and updates a list of cachers who has found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan here and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to Damian’s list.
