In my time as an instructor Deer Valley I have been hiding caches all over the resort for the enjoyment of my fellow skiing geocachers. I was describing this to a guest late last season as we rode the Quincy Chair lift. At the conclusion of my explanation of geocaching the guest replied "So there's one down there on Hidden Treasure then?" It takes a muggle to point out a relationship I skied by thousands of times. Of course Hidden Treasure must have its own hidden treasure!
It is just off the beginning of Hidden Trasure so those not yet comfortable leaving the greens can stop for the cache and still get back to Ontario. The cache is hidden in center of a clump of trees. The reception was awful near the cache because of the trees. However, the coordinates should be good enough to get you to the right clump, then just start hunting. It is positioned to be winter friendly (i.e. look up). The terrain rating of 5 results from the intent of finding this cache while skiing. In terms of skiing terrain, this is the easiest cache at Deer Valley. Again it could be found by ambitious hikers in the summer.
A caution as you approach the trees. They are only about 50ft from the groomed part of Hidden Treasure. However, those 50ft contain some pretty deep drifts. Kids love to play there (cool snow forts!!). It's a good place to take a break from skiing for snow play. If you are not 10 years old and would prefer not to swim your way through snow drifts, you may want to leave your skis on until you get to the trees. It will make the going easier.
