I thought that Brockville could use a few puzzle caches, but in thinking about it, I know how anxious everybody gets when they see that "question mark" icon. This series is designed to help those who are a little reluctant to try a puzzle, give it a go. The various caches focus on differing methods of basic puzzle solving and will give one a starting point with their puzzle solving. The series basically amounts to a tutorial and all the caches are micro park and grabs. So let's roll up our sleeves and get started. Before we getting started as with most puzzles, THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES!!!
Alpha/Numeric Substitution
So what is alpha/numeric substitution you ask? Well it's just another method people use to get numbers from letters. In it's simplest form it goes as follows:
A=1, B=2, C=3.....Z=26
although if the cacher is being tricky and this method doesn't seem to be working, try:
A=26, B=25, C=24.....Z=1
Essentially all alpha/numeric substitution is, is a method of using letters of the alphabet to garner numbers. So in saying this, let's try the following puzzle and see if you can find the cache:
The cache is located at:
N 44 CF.AHE
W 075 DF.EDA
As with other methods of gathering numbers, there is a program to figure out alpha/numeric substitution, but hey use the gray matter. Also some people may use higher letters, but digital root (see Puzzle Solving 101 - Digital Rooting) the two digits for a single one.
As with all CZ caches, I hope you have fun, be safe and learn something along the way.
Cheers
