Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache and dash near to the old Bovey Tracey railway station. The walk is flat and wheelchair users will have no problems accept at GZ . Do go and look at the old station, which is now a museum. This is a traditional cache in a small container which has room for small swaps and trackables.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN

Bovey Tracey station was halfway along the Moretonhampstead and South Devon Railway branch line out of Newton Abbot and opened on the 4th July 1866. The line closed to passengers in 1959 and completely shut in 1967. Today, the A382 road runs along what was the track and station site, a far cry from the heady days of steam and a journey by the rivers Teign and Bovey. The South Devon Railway as it became was aborbed in time by the GWR and continued to be popular until WW2 - after this the line was never really promoted and when the Teign Valley line closed in '58 this was the death nail for Bovey and over time the track was lifted north of Bovey and then to the south. The last trains to Bovey were specials in 1970.
