[ITA] LA LEGGENDA
In questa casa viveva Orio, un giovane pescatore. Come al solito prese la sua barca e vogò fino a dopo le bocche di porto di Malamocco e si mise a gettare le reti in mare. Era notte. Improvvisamente sentì un lamento: "Per piacere, liberami, ti prego!" Dal buio emersero delle mani e un viso di una meravigliosa ragazza. "Non sarai mica una strega caduta in acqua..." Non preoccuparti. Mi chiamo Melusina." Sorrisero entrambi. E dalle scure acque emerse con lei anche una grande coda di pesce. Orio di colpo si rese conto di essersi innamorato di lei. Continuarono a parlare fino all'alba promettendosi di incontrarsi ogni notte. E così fecero.
Orio volle la sua mano. Melusina disse che in questo modo doveva perdere la libertà del mare per acquisire un paio di gambe. Lui insistette e lei acconsentì ma ad una condizione: fino al giorno delle nozze non si potevano vedere di sabato.
Tutto andò liscio per due settimane ma al terzo sabato non seppe resistere a andò al solito posto. Aspettò ma lei non si fece viva. Ad un certo punto un turbinio d'acque scosse il silenzio ed una grande serpe si dimenò nell'acqua chiamandolo per nome: "Ti avevo detto di non venire! Per un maleficio sono costretta a trasformarmi in serpe ogni sabato. Ma se mi sposerai rimarrò per sempre bella come mi conosci"
Si sposarono ed ebbero tre figli. Aveva una famiglia e il lavoro andava a gonfie vele. Ma un giorno Melusina si ammalò e morì. Volle essere seppellita in mare.
Da solo in casa coi figli, il lavoro da badare: non sapeva come fare. Ma qualcosa di strano avvenne in quella casa. Ogni volta che rincasava trovava sia i figli che la casa perfettamente a posto. Pensò fosse la sua vicina. Ma un giorno, di sabato, rincasato prima del solito trovò in cucina una serpe. Prese l'accetta e la colpì fino a farla stramazzare senza vita.
Da quel momento la casa e figli rimasero di colpo trascurati. Si accorse che la serpe era la sua Melusina e lui l'aveva uccisa definitivamente. A ricordo di questa storia un cuore in pietra è stato posto dove in origine fu la casa di Orio e Melusina.

In this house there used to live a young fisherman, Orio. As usual he took his boat and rowed past the mouths of the port of Malamocco and started to throw his nets into the sea. It was night. My name is Melusina. They both smiled. And from the dark waters emerged with her a large fish tail. Orio suddenly realised that he was in love with her. They went on talking till dawn, promising to meet every night. And so they did.
Orio wanted her hand (in marriage). Melusina said that in this way she had to lose the freedom of the sea to get a pair of legs. He insisted and she consented, but with one condition: until the day of the wedding they could not see each other on a Saturday.
Everything went smoothly for two weeks, but on the third Saturday he did not know how to resist and went to the usual place. He waited, but she did not come forward. At a certain moment a waterspout shook the silence and a huge serpent thrashed in the water calling him by name: "I told you not to come! By an evil spell I am forced to change into a serpent every Saturday. But if you will marry me I will stay beautiful, as you know me, forever.
They married and had three children. He had a family and his work was going successfully. But one day, Melusina took ill and died. She wanted to be buried at sea.
Alone at home with the children, his work to take care of: he didn't know what to do. But something strange happened in that house. Every time he returned home, he was finding house perfectly tidy. He thought it was his neighbour. But one day, a Saturday, returning home earlier than usual, he found a serpent in the kitchen. He grabbed his hatchet and hit it until it collapsed lifeless.
From that moment the house and the children suddenly stayed neglected. He perceived that the serpent was his Melusina and that he had really killed her. In memory of this story, a heart of stone was placed where the house of Orio and Melusina originally stood
