Geocache Description:

Another one in our Park (and Play) series brings you to the recently built playground in James and Ethel Grey Park. A nano cache hidden close to the area we always park in when we go to watch cricket at the nearby Wanderers Cricket Stadium.

Named after the early Johannesburg historians, James and Ethel Gray, this little park snuggled in the suburb of Birdhaven, was originally a bird sanctuary. It is still home to an assortment of feathered residents, and locals who live close to James and Ethel Gray Park claim the park has the best sunrise view in the city. The Sandspruit River flows through its 36 hectares, creating an attractive, tranquil atmosphere. Landscaping incorporates both indigenous vegetation and neat lawns and there are meandering walkways.

Early risers head to the park with their children and dogs, the gorgeous views out over the city preserved for those who enjoy them. Its steep banks are what make for the views, whilst these same slopes might limit any use of the park for recreational space, the open grassy areas, the terraces, the stillness of the park and the views are what makes it such a haven for those who use it.

It also doubles up as a parking area for match days at the Wanderers Cricket Stadium.
