Ireland's most recognised building, the original 4 courts were the courts of Chancery, Exchequer, Kings Bench and Common Pleas, and were numbered 1 to 4 and located off the Round Hall. Designed in 1784 by the renowned architect James Gandon, the complex was utterly destroyed on 28-30 June, 1922, following which the Civil War officially begun. Several centuries of public records were lost when the Public Record Office was set ablaze.
The courts complex was redeveloped following the Civil War. The iconic dome was rebuilt in 30 hours by a workforce of 20.
The term Four Courts is misleading, as on any given weekday the Supreme Court and around 20 High Courts will be hearing cases simultanously.
The cache is placed near the entrance to the judges yard. From this vantage point, you will witness a procession of judges, barristers and solicitors looking very busy. And busy some are, the waiting time for your average Supreme Court case is 4 years, while if you are unlucky enough to find yourself in the Asylum courts (which sit in the building directly behind the cache) you can expect a wait running into decades.
The cache is a micro, and those who seek justice with small fingers will find it.
