Cette cache urbaine est une nano dont le seul objectif est de donner un coup de projecteur sur un personnage Limougeaud qui est à l'origine, malgré lui, d'un nom commun.
This urban geocache is a nano for which the only objective is to put the light onto a character whose name, in spite of him, became a common noun.

Etienne de Silhouette est né à Limoges le 5 juillet 1705.
Passionné de littérature et de philosophie, brillant élève, il parcourut le monde et analysa particulièrement le système financier Anglais.
Contrôleur général des finances de Louis XV, il eut l’idée de remplir les caisses de l’Etat en taxant les nobles et les plus riches.
Cette idée farfelue lui valut l’hostilité de nombre de membres de la cour. Il tomba rapidement en disgrâce et fut la cible de chansons satiriques. Il devint si impopulaire que son nom fut associé à tout ce qui était mesquin et inachevé.
L’expression "à la Silhouette" fut alors inventée pour qualifier tout ce qui était éphémère, sommaire, voire informe, à l’image de son passage éclair au ministère des Finances…
Le nom de silhouette restera pour toujours un genre de portrait qui devint à la mode à cette époque bien que connu depuis l'antiquité.
Les portraits de ce type étaient des visages de profil, dessinés d'après l'ombre de la chandelle sur un papier puis découpés dans du papier noir.
Déchu, humilié, Etienne de Silhouette se retira à Bry-sur-Marne dans le château qu'il entrepris de reconstruire et repris ses œuvres littéraires dans une bibliothèque qui compta plus de 6000 ouvrages.
Comme Poubelle, Colt, Béchamel, Silhouette est l'un des noms communs dont on a oublié maintenant qu'ils ont pour origine un nom propre.
Etienne de Silhouette a laissé son nom à une rue de Limoges, prétexte à la création de cette cache.

Etienne de Silhouette was born in Limoges on July 5th, 1705.
Passionate about literature and about philosophy, brilliant student, he went through the world and analyzed particularly the English financial system.
General controller of the finances of Louis XV, he had the idea to fill the cash boxes of the State by taxing the nobles and the richest.
This silly idea was worth to him the hostility of number of members of the court. It quickly fell into disgrace and was the target of satiric songs. He became so unpopular that his name was associated with all which was narrow-minded and unfinished.
The expression " like a Silhouette " was then invented to qualify all which was short-lived, summary, even informs, just like its lightning passage to the Ministry of Finance …
The name of silhouette will remain for ever a kind of portrait which became fashionable in this period although known since the antiquity.
The portraits of this type were faces of profile, drawn according to the shadow of the candle on a paper then cut from some black paper.
Declined, humbled, Etienne de Silhouette withdrew in Bry-sur-Marne in the castle who began to reconstruct and resumed his literary works in a library which counted more than 6000 books.
As Poubelle (Trash can in French), Colt, Béchamel, Silhouette is one of the common nouns of which we forgot now that they have for origin a character name.
Etienne de Silhouette gave his name to a street of Limoges, pretext for the creation of this geocache.

Pourquoi "VERT" / Why "VERT" ?
[FR] Ma première cache posée (GC3VHY2) était une boîte verte, avec un stylo vert, un log book vert et des objets d'échange verts. Ainsi est née l'idée de placer les caches qui ont suivi sous le signe du "VERT" et de proposer un challenge consistant à y déposer de préférence des objets "VERTs". Ce challenge ne peut malheureusement pas concerner les caches de taille nano ou micro.
[EN] My first geocache ( GC3VHY2) was a green box, with a green pen, a green log book and green items for exchange. So was born the idea to place the caches which followed under the sign of the "VERT" ("GREEN" in French) and to propose a challenge consisting in depositing there rather "VERT" objects. This challenge cannot unfortunately concern the caches in nano or micro size.
