Geocache Description:

Sutherland Shire Cycleways – Eastern Trail for Beginners along the southern side of Botany Bay

Cache #19 – Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant Challenge

This cycle trail is set up to introduce you to the diverse and yet intertwined natural and social landscape .

On the 29th February 2012, I completed a cache and decided to try for 366 continuous days including this Leap year day. I discovered the Sydney streak challenges series and found it ended at 100 days. This is for longer streaks.

Now a Premium Only cache due to nearby muggle activity.

They often say life is about the journey, not the destination; but with geocaching, we say it’s both! With over 3 million geocaches around the world. The adventure begins with navigating to the geocache location, then there’s the big “ah-ha!” moment when you find the geocache! The journey doesn’t end there though, so we’re listing out five steps we recommend once you’ve made a find. Are you completing all five?

  1. Sign the logbook in the geocache. You should always carry a pen/pencil. Every Physical geocache has got a log and it’s just as important to sign the physical log as it is to post your log in the Geocaching® app. Signing the geocache log validates your visit! If you don't sign, then post a note till you return.
  2. Scenic view? Fun trail? Group shot? Take a photo to include with your log! Photos can be uploaded to your log right from the app. However NEVER add a spoiler. The next person should have the same experience.
  3. Log your find in the Geocaching® app! If you’re not logging your find in the field, save it as a draft and include a few notes about your journey to the geocache that you can use to jog your memory later. Remember to NOT include spoiler comments in your log!
  4. Give it a Favorite point! Premium members can award Favorite points to w-o-w geocaches to let other cachers know it’s something special.
  5. Place the geocache back where you found it so the next cacher can experience the same finders-joy! Remember to respect your surroundings, whether that’s flora, fauna, or others around enjoying the outdoors.

It is with respect to the concept set up by Morley196 that I am adding some caches into the Sutherland Shire Cycleways series especially to help others trying to achieve a similar goal or allow those who have achieved it in the past to record their achievement.
This Cache recognises those who have cached every day for 4 months (122 days). Congratulations to you if have achieved it – every caching day after about 100 is a challenge in themselves !!!
For those of you who may be upset that a few caches exist that you can’t achieve, please remember that Geocaching is only a game and it is played for fun or to learn from the information provided by the cache owners. It is only a game that we play for ourselves not for others, how I play the game, may not be the way you play the game, this cache is here for people who play the game this way no other reason. Streaking is one the harder ways to play as you must go out whatever the cost!
Congratulations to all that have achieved this milestone in their caching career. You are almost there now!
To log this cache you need to:
  • Have a streak of 122 days or more
  • Complete the Sudoku puzzle
  • Log your find stating your caching streak.

The difficulty is in the completion of the streak not the puzzle or the cache location.

Just up the road from one of Sydney’s newest housing estate is a micro magnet opposite the entrance to the Sewage Treatment Plant. It serves an area of 12,000 hectares, including Cronulla, Sutherland, Helensburgh and Menai. Sewerage schemes in Bundeena and Maianbar have also been transferred to Cronulla.

Sydney Water begun work on the odour management system at Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in May 2012. This project will reduce the risk of odours impacting the surrounding community and ensure that the plant can continue to perform in line with environmental requirements.
The Odour Management Program Alliance, comprising Sydney Water, Abigroup and CH2MHill has been appointed to complete this work.
The Cronulla Odour Management Project includes:
  • covering the odorous areas of the plant not covered at present
  • refurbishing the existing infrastructure and protecting it from corrosion
  • constructing a new Odour Treatment Facility comprising four bio-trickling filters and a discharge stack
  • extracting, treating and dispersing the treated air via the stack.
