Geocache Description:

Great excuse to visit a historic part of Kentucky and the U.S. Army. Located near the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, KY. Now completely publicly accessible with no security check point to visit this outstanding museum. Entrance off of 31W is approximately N 37* 53.877' W 085* 58.580'

This is a smallish cache. Container is camo-ish with the actual log in a film cannister inside (double-waterproofing).

“The Patton Museum is the Armor Branch Museum for the U. S. Army. It began from a collection of captured equipment that was sent to Fort Knox for testing and evaluation during World War II. Since many of the items came from the Third Army Era, the collection became known as the Patton Collection. In 1949, a museum was formed and dedicated to General George S. Patton, Jr. Since that time, the collection has grown to include Armor from all nations, from World War I to Desert Storm.”
-from the Fort Knox Post Guide

The museum is FREE. Take the time to visit; it’s worth it. From museum website: "Due to staffing restrictions, effective July 2, 2012, the Museum will be closed on Mondays. Weekday Hours 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST Tuesday - Friday Closed Mondays (after July 2) Weekends and Federal Holiday Hours 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST Closed January 1st Easter Sunday Thanksgiving Day December 24th - 25th December 31st

Cache is located on the museum grounds as you stroll about looking at big military equipment and the park honoring various units (some of them Engineers!). There are many famous unit’s commemorated here that fought in the past and continue to defend freedom today.

November 30, 2005: This cache has been re-hidden in a slightly different location. I'm allowing re-finds from this date forward, but please stop by the museum too - you'll be glad you did.
