Geocache Description:



Between the former tracks of two railroads (Chicago Great Western and Chicago Aurora & Elgin) lies the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie -- from Spring Road to Salt Creek (toward the west).

The Shooting Star Trail guide and map pamphlet is no longer available at Spring Road. This was a self guided tour of representative prairie plants, preserved and maintained for your education and enjoyment, located within the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie. (Interpretive signs along the Prairie Path have replaced the Trail Guide.) The Shooting Star, by the way, is a unique prairie flower that bears a likeness to a firework's display as it arcs and explodes in the sky.

Look around for evidence of the old rail lines. You should see the raised track beds with the prairie in the valley between the trails.
