Walker's Trail - A Night Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

CanisMinor: This kills me, but with setback after setback on this cache including muggles, LEOs, and now new construction happening, I regretfully have to archive this one. I was honored to have this cache not only GONIL Cache of the Month, but also Cache of the Year. Thank you all who have visited, and my apologies to those who never had the chance. I hope to be able to create something just as fun soon. See you on the trails.

Geocache Description:

Cache is not at posted coordinates!

This is a night cache. Daylight attempts will be futile!

Disease has overcome Will county. A disease beyond pandemic status. Even beyond virus or plague. This is the one you'll not be prepared for. It's the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! You find yourself awakened to hell on earth. You have no idea how you and your fellow cachers got here, but all you know is you all need to find a way out. Seek safety in numbers. "Walkers", as they've been come to be known by the survivors, have been seen in your immediate vicinity. Find your way out before it's too late!

Again this is a night cache, and you won't find it during daylight hours.  This cache is also designed for you to do as a group (to add to the fun and fear factor).  You will need a flashlight, a smart phone, internet access, and courage to complete this cache!  From the posted recommended parking, make your way to the posted coords.  This is the first of 17 fire tack stages.  Fire Tacks are reflective trail markers that blend in during the day, but reflect direct light at night.

At this first stage, search the immediate area for your first clue.  You will then proceed along the road searching for additional fire tacks.  Not all stages have clues at them, rather serve as a guide.  Some firetacks designate direction, some tell you you're on the right path, some have clues to the next tack. You will receive further clues at the 5th, 6th, 9th, 11th(note 11 is having trouble project 330' @ 45deg from there!), 12th, and 14th stages.  You will not have to deviate more than 30' off the road for a clue for the first half of the course!  After that, survival is the name of the game.  As you progress, you will start to see multiple fire tacks at certain stages.  This designates a specific direction, and tells you that you are nearing completion.  Continue further until you reach two separate fire tacks within 15' of each other.  There, search within a 30' radius for the final location. The avg distance between fire tacks is .11mi. The furthest is .15mi.

There will be puzzles to solve and a projection to be made.  Waterproof boots or shoes may be necessary depending on the weather.

Try leaving your flashlights off as much as possible to add a sense of fear, but peridically check your progress. You will venture within hearing distance of a few residences, so please be extra stealthy.

Try not to get bit, scratched, or eaten.  It'd be a shame to have to put you down.
