Lighting the Way Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

BigBirdO>: Due to the construction project at this corner, I have archived this cache until the area clears up. The whole concept will have to be re-imagined as the namesake is no longer there. Hopefully early 2014.

Geocache Description:

A series of interesting lamps light your way...one of them holds a tiny treasure!

Before Bill's Gamblin' Hall, this corner was home to The Barbary Coast.

The Barbary Coast casino was originally built by Michael Gaughan, opening in March 1979 at a cost of $11.5 million. In 2004, Boyd Gaming announced that they would purchase Coast Casinos, the parent company and a Las Vegas locals casino brand, for $820 million. The hotels included in this deal were the Barbary Coast, the Gold Coast, the Suncoast, the Orleans, and the South Coast, which was under construction at the time. The buyout was completed in July 2005 at a cost of $1.2 billion.

The Barbary Coast casino was closed at 2AM on February 27, 2007 after the Nevada Gaming Control Board gave approval earlier in the month for the Barbary Coast to be swapped to the Harrah's Corporation. After the deal was completed, the hotel and casino were rebranded as Bill's Gamblin Hall and Saloon, in honor of Harrah's founder Bill Harrah, and reopened March 1, 2007 under Harrah's ownership.

On February 4, 2013, Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon closed its doors to undergo renovations for an all-new boutique resort. The renovated hotel and casino is planned to reopen in 2014.

Now, for the cache!

This was the very first cache I found in Vegas. When I took my friends there a few months later it was gone! Boo! I've replaced it and will check on it every few months. Please use stealth as there are many muggles in this area.

If you travel to Bill's from Bally's (across the street) you have to ride some escalators and walk across an overpass. They have elevators as well, if necessary. On the Bill's side of the street you will find some interesting lamps. It looks like they might belong in a European city. Very few people will ever see this particular lamp when visiting Las Vegas. Please sign log with initials only.
