St. Patrick's Glencoe Cemetery, which dates to 1840, contains the graves of many Irish immigrants from Wexford.
Harrison Township Located between Reeve and Veale Townships and bounded on the south by the east fork of the White River, Harrison Township is one of the smallest in Daviess County. Today an extensive amount of its area is taken up by the Glendale State Fish and Game Reserve and by Dogwood Lake, a large water resource which was created as part of the Reserve. Additionally, large sections of the township are presently being strip mined, thus limiting the available area for historic resources. Harrison Township was formed in 1840 from lands which were once part of the two townships now surrounding it. Settlement in this vicinity along the southern border of the county was early. Arriving as early as 1812, the Jones, Gregory and Cower families from South Carolina found its rolling hills and rich bottom land favorable. Others from Kentucky and Ohio moved here during the first two or three decades of the nineteenth century. The township was not served by rail or canal during its early years but St. Patrick's Glencoe Cemetery, which dates to 1840, contains the graves of many Irish immigrants from Wexford who contributed to the development of the county with their labor on the canal and as miners. Hudsonville, one of two towns in the township, was laid out in 1856 but never developed. Glendale, at the center of the township, once contained half a dozen dwellings, a schoolhouse, church and stores.
