Geocache Description:

Welcome to Hippowaffle's beachside hangout.

First a couple of quick alerts:

The cache can be done as a drive by, bike ride or as part of a walk. The cache is placed between a road and a bike track so if you've got young geokids be aware of this. Please walk along road or beach side path rather than the bike track.
There are links below that you are about to download that contain further details describing the history of the area around this geocache. As the cache owner, I represent that these files are safe to download although they have not been checked by Groundspeak or by the reviewer for possible malicious content. Download these files at your own risk. The files are from the Port Phillip Council and State Library of Victoria.

Anyway, back to the cache. There are a couple of reasons Hippo and Waffle have brought you to this location.

Hippo and Waffle love to come down to the historic beach kiosk located about 50 metres north west of here. We generally partake in a latte and a waffle ice cream and have a bit of a waffle on about life - I'm not sure why he's called Waffle, could be either of these reasons. The kiosk is generally open on weekends and even through winter if the weather is OK. It's a great spot just to sit and watch the sea and the rest of the world promenade past.

The second reason, for coming here is to have a squiz at Point Ormond. It's a hill with a beacon on top which is great to walk or ride up, roll down, fly a kite from, etc.

But it wasn't always so. Most people are familiar with the Red Bluff at Black Rock but are unaware that Point Ormond was once a red bluff as well - albeit on a smaller scale. Here is a link to a picture of Point Ormond prior to it being moulded to its current shape. There are a number of other pictures in the SLV archives if you want to have a look.

Anyway come on down and enjoy a latte or a waffle cone ice cream... We may even be there...
