Geocache Description:

GeoFest in the parks

Come join us for the first annual GeoFest in the Parks. It will be held at Chewacla State Park at the above posted coordinates starting at 10:00 am on February 23, 2013.

Just what is a GeoFest you ask? GeoFest is a gathering of geocachers and friends to enjoy the many aspects of geocaching which include story telling, fellowship, creative caches, finding caches, CITO, food and other mischief that geocachers get into. So then what is
GeoFest in the Parks? It is a gathering of geocachers in one of the state parks in Alabama the Beautiful. The Alabama State Parks are a true treasure of the state and hope everyone will come and enjoy the beauty of this treasure as well as the fellowship of fellow geocachers.

So this event will be the first annual event known as
GeoFest in the Parks. The event is a coordinated effort between the geocaching community and Alabama State Parks. The parks have been very good to the geocaching community, not only allowing geocaching in the parks but supporting and working with geocaching to make everyone’s experience in the parks better.

So come one, come all to this weekend of activities at and around Chewacla State Park. There will be a weekend full of activities beginning on Friday night continuing on Saturday and ending on Sunday.

The GeoFest Event on Saturday will include the following activities:

GeoStory Telling Contest - At any geocaching gathering, there is always storytelling about adventures they have experienced. So we are asking anyone that has a good geocaching related story or tall tale and willing to present to the group and once all stories told, the group votes on their favorites and will have a prize for the one chosen as the best.

Best Camo Cache Contest - This is a contest for the best camo cache. The camo can be rural or urban type of camo. Anyone can enter the contest and will be displayed for all at the event to review and then vote for their favorite. There will be a prize for the one receiving the most votes. Rumors have it that Dale’s Nano will be back for this one.

Door Prizes - A variety of door prizes will be given away at the event

Food - Lunch will be provided by the GeoFest Committee which will include hotdogs, chips and drinks. Also cake for desert will be provided by the same cake maker in my previous events, which many say is some of the best cakes they ever had.

Geocaches - Rumor has it there will be some new geocaches in the area. For those that are not aware of Chewacla State Park, there are over 65 caches in the park and will add to that total. There are a number of caches in this area (150 within 5 miles, 300+ within 10 miles & 400 within 20 miles). There is even night trail in Tuskegee National Forest within 12 miles that has over 20 night caches. The Director Of Evil will have some new caches including a new treasure chest and the most complex cache to date.

Geocoins - There are plans to have a trackable event geocoin. We are asking for those who wants one to let us know so we can order the coins to have them available at the event. The cost of the coin will be determined by the number of coins ordered but trying to get the cost around $12.50 a coin. Alabama State Parks also has a geocoin that is available at this park if you have not gotten yours by the event.
